The secret shopper scam has made another appearance. Do not respond to advertisements or emails related to job opportunities as a secret shopper. Without exception, these are scams.
The scam starts when you respond to what appears to be a job opportunity. The scammer will send you a cashier’s check and instruct you to cash the check and send the majority of the money to another person via wire transfer through MoneyGram, Western Union, etc. You are allowed to keep a small portion of the money as your payment for testing the wire transfer service. Days after doing so, the bank notifies you that the cashier’s check was fraudulent, and you are then out the money that you sent via wire transfer.
If you receive an email regarding a secret shopper job opportunity, delete it and forget about it.
